A mutation has made many formerly treatable diseases, including STDs, deadly. In a world where websites have replaced newspapers, pollution has altered the environment, and diseases and drug wars have almost collapsed society, fear reigns. The “Decency and Morality Laws” now control life. On one of the news websites, controversy over how to handle a story on a kiddie-porn ring ignites a conflict between Tom, an older editor who remembers how things used to be, and George, a young reporter who knows only the repressive present.
Caught in this conflict are Abby, a reporter caught between generations; Virginia, a cub reporter fresh from the hills of Arkansas; and Sandy, a young student trying to sell snacks to the news web staff. Each has reasons to support Tom and George, as well as reasons to oppose them. What will happen if this goes beyond a difference of opinion?
What does fear do to us? Does it scar our souls? If an epidemic makes everyone a potential carrier of infection, how do we live with each other? Seven survivors try to determine what it means to stay alive in a world that is arriving soon. SOON, a play about what is coming sooner than you think.
